Joel Embiid feels that he is the best defensive player in the league

What's the story?

Joel Embiid feels that he is the best defensive player in the league.

In case you didn't know...

Embiid ranks sixth in the league with a defensive box plus-minus of 3.5, which is above the reigning Defensive Player of the Year Draymond Green.

The heart of the matter...

Joel Embiid may not be fully fit, but he feels that he is the best defensive player in the league right now as he tells NBC Sports' Jessica Camerato "Not to be cocky, but I think I'm the best defensive player in the league right now".

The Philadelphia 76ers' defense is ranked seventh in the NBA and they allow 101.8 points per 100 possessions. The 22-year-old is the reason as he provides stability and confidence to their defense.

Not only is he the Sixers leading scorer with 22.7 points per game, he imposes his will on the defensive end of the floor pulling down 9.1 defensive rebounds and 1.9 blocks (fifth in the NBA) per outing.

The Sixers with a record of 10-7, currently at the 6th position in the Eastern Conference and Embiid's impact on both ends of the floor could be the reason they make the playoffs for the first time in six years.

What's next?

Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers (10-7) would like to continue their good form as they play Orlando Magic (8-10) at home on Saturday.

Author's take...

Joel Embiid at 7-foot-2 is a beast unlike any other. With the ability to post up and shoot threes, he is really a find for the Sixers and could be the answer to their playoff drought. The only thing standing in his way is his health. If he can remain healthy, there is no stopping him.
