The LA Lakers hit the road to take on the struggling Dallas Mavericks at the American Airlines Center on Tuesday before beginning their five-game homestand. They come off a tough 119-115 loss to the Houston Rockets that ended with ample drama. The Mavericks, on the other hand, have been in freefall, losing five games in a row, with the latest defeat being against the Memphis Grizzlies in an away fixture.

Both teams have had contrasting runs in the last month. While the Lakers have managed to keep their noses ahead to fifth place, the Mavericks have been struggling with an injury-riddled side depleted of firepower on both ends of the floor.

Their offensive one-two punch combo of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving are set to miss a good chunk of games, leaving a lot for the likes of Klay Thompson and PJ Washington to do.

The last time the Lakers played the Mavericks, it was an Anthony Davis show with 28 points and 12 rebounds to help LA get past Dallas with a 127-110 win. Can the big continue his scintillating run or will the short-handed Mavericks stun LA?

LA Lakers vs Dallas Mavericks Preview

Minus the questionable calls that went against them, the LA Lakers played good basketball for a major part of their previous contest. While they rallied and took the contest deeper, they will be upset about not being able to pull off a win against one of the younger and faster teams in the conference.

Chances of LA' success comes down to how good LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Without their key pieces, the Mavericks will have a tough time containing Davis, and should he make his way to another DD2, the Lakers can look to shake off the loss against the Rockets and make the surge.

James continues to be on a tear for the Purple and Gold 29.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 8.3 assists in his last two games and has been consistent throughout the season with 24.0 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 8.9 assists. Dallas has the injury bug and will be playing the second night of a back-to-back after coming off a loss against the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Lakers are 13th in scoring offense averaging 112.3 points per game and 111.7 points per 100 possessions. They are ninth in the league in FG% with 47.3% and are shooting 35.5% of their 3s (18th).

The Lakers are 19th in scoring defense, allowing 112.5 points per 100 possessions. They concede 47.6% from the field and 13th in 3-point defense, allowing 35.8% from the deep.

That said, the Mavericks are not without players who can stun LA. Klay Thompson may have had a quiet game against Memphis but has proven over the years that he can single-handedly take the contest away from teams once he gets hot. Former Laker Spencer Dinwiddie is a legitimate perimeter threat.

The Mavericks are eighth in scoring offense averaging 116.7 points and 114.4 points per 100 possessions. They are sixth in field goal offense nailing 48.2% of their shots, and are ninth in 3-point shooting lacing 37.3% of their 3s.

Defensively, Dallas is 14th in scoring defense, allowing 109.3 points per 100 possessions. The Mavericks allow their opponents to score 45.5% from the field and 35.6% from beyond the arc.

LA Lakers vs Dallas Mavericks Prediction

The LA Lakers definitely hold the advantage with a day's rest and recent form on their side. They have their regular rotation healthy, and the contest is winnable, considering Doncic and Irving's absence. It's interesting to see if they can stave off Dallas and look to consolidate their top five position in the West. Expect the Lakers to win on Tuesday.
