LA Lakers vs Sacramento Kings preview

The Lakers started slow this season with a 10-point loss to the Golden State Warriors but answered back in a dominant win over Minnesota.

Luka Doncic has been the constant in both games, posting 43 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists in the opener, then following up with 49 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists. He’s shooting a blistering 62%, though just 31.8% from 3.

With LeBron James sidelined, Austin Reaves has stepped up, averaging 25.5 points, 10.0 assists and 6.0 rebounds.

Offensively, the Lakers rank 11th in offensive rating through two games but sit 17th on defense. They’re among the league’s bottom five in rebounding, and their frontcourt defense, even with Deandre Ayton’s addition, remains a concern.

The Kings, meanwhile, rebounded from a frustrating four-point loss to the Phoenix Suns, a game they once led by 20, with a hard-fought win over Utah, capped by a Domantas Sabonis game-winning putback.

Zach LaVine has been outstanding early, averaging 30.5 ppg, supported by Malik Monk (19.5), DeMar DeRozan (18.0) and Dennis Schroder (18.0). Despite strong guard play, Sacramento’s frontcourt has struggled, ranking second worst in the league with just 28 rebounds per game.

Injuries could heavily influence this matchup. Doncic (left finger sprain) and Jaxson Hayes (knee soreness) are questionable for the Lakers, while James, Maxi Kleber and Adou Thiero remain out. The Kings will be without Keegan Murray and Nique Clifford, and LaVine is questionable.

LA Lakers vs Sacramento Kings prediction

We expect the Kings’ fast-paced offense to overpower the Lakers. While the outcome hinges on the availability of Doncic and LaVine, Sacramento should have enough scoring depth to prevail.

Our prediction: Kings win by 11.
