The LA Lakers will be desperate when they play the San Antonio Spurs at the Frost Bank Center on Wednesday. They have lost three games on the bounce, and have been trounced by 25 and 27 points at the hands of the Denver Nuggets and the Phoenix Suns. Familiar issues plagued the Purple and Gold as they squandered a solid first half with an abysmal third quarter. Their defense barring Anthony Davis continues to be lackluster, and ultimately the Lakers were outplayed by a rejuvenated Suns side.
Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs have been trending in the right direction. They have won four games in a row, two of them against Western Conference powerhouses the OKC Thunder and the Golden State Warriors. Their 10-8 record sees them placed 10th in an unforgiving West, but their win streak proves that San Antonio is playing quality ball this season.
Both teams faced off less than a fortnight ago, with LA winning the contest 120-115 on the back of Davis' 40-point assault. Wembanyama and the Spurs were no match offensively, as the Lakers dominated in the first half and later staved off a late rally. Their paint domination and valuable contributions helped them win, and now they will need to regroup to get back to winning ways.
The Lakers will already be exhausted, having been decimated by the Suns. So it will be a mental test for LeBron James and Co. Their upcoming slate only gets challenging and snapping the skid will be a priority when they take the floor for the marquee midweek matchup. Will the Lakers bounce back or can the Spurs make it five in a row?

LA Lakers vs San Antonio Spurs Preview
The LA Lakers need wins. And despite their two losses, they are still one of the more formidable offenses in the league. At 116.4 points per contest, they are still in the top 10 teams in the NBA on scoring offense. Their defensive woes are laid bare as they allow 116.9 points per game for every 100 possessions. They are shooting 48.2% from the field and 37.5% from beyond the arc.
Davis leads the Lakers with 29.8 points per game, and James is second with 23.3 points. He also leads the pack in assists with 9.2 dimes per game. In addition to leading the side in rebounds (11.4), Davis also leads the team in both steals at (1.3) and blocks (2.1) per contest. With Jaxson Hayes now on the injury list, much depends on the center's time and impact on the floor for an extended period if they intend to win against the Spurs.
The Spurs, who are heavily reliant on Wembanyama and Devin Vassell for offense, average 109.8 points per contest while allowing 109.2 points per game. They allow their opponents to shoot 44.9% overall from the field, which is sixth-best in the league. The French phenom leads San Antonio with 23.6 points per game and veteran Chris Paul averages 8.3 assists per contest.
LA Lakers vs San Antonio Spurs Predicted Starting Lineup
The Lakers are likely to stick to the same lineup unless JJ Redick decides to insert rookie Dalton Knecht for Rui Hachimura to bolster the offense. The Lakers will be without forward Jarred Vanderbilt (foot) and Christian Wood (knee), Hayes' injury that saw him exit to the locker room leaves his status uncertain.
The Spurs are playing a back-to-back as well and are likely to field their same starters barring any last-minute changes.
LA Lakers vs San Antonio Spurs Betting Tips
Keep an eye out for LeBron James as he comes in with an o/u of +104/-115 on points. Anthony Davis is -120/-113 on points and rebounds. Victor Wembanyama is -115/-110 on points and rebounds. Stephon Castle will be an interesting bet with -109/-108 on points.
LA Lakers vs San Antonio Spurs Prediction
The Spurs are in better form, but discounting the LA Lakers is never a great ploy. There have been games when the Lakers will be down and out, but they are also the kind of side that bounces back and goes on a winning streak. The Lakers' defense will be their Achilles heel and should they be able to shore up efforts on that end, they will be a side to be wary of. However, the energized hosts are playing better basketball. Take the Spurs for the Win.
