Lamar Odom out of coma and recovering, speaks to wife Khloe Kardashian

No longer knocking on heaven’s door

According to sources close to him, NBA Superstar Lamar Odom is out of a coma and making progress. He even said “Hi” to his wife Khloe Kardashian who has been at his bedside for the past three days. Odom was hospitalized and in criticial condition after being found unconscious at a brothel on Wednesday , after reportedly consuming alchohol, cocaine and herbal Viagra.

Jim Harrick, Odom’s former college basketball coach told CNN that the two-time NBA champion was no longer on breathing tubes and kidney dialysis and was awake for a while. This is the most reassuring development in the otherwise grim situation. Initial reports suggested that there wasn’t much hope of Odom surviving.

The former LA Lakers forward still needs the help of a breathing mask and his vital organs are seriously damaged. According to CNN, Odom blinked when his wife bent down to his ear and said she loves him.

The situatuion was so bleak that Khloe Kardashian assumed responsibility of making medical decisions for Odom when he was first admitted. It was reported that the members of the Kardashian family who had gathered by Odom’s side were saying their final farewells to the NBA Superstar.

Odom was found insensate at the Love Ranch in Nevada, parts of which have legalized brothels. A pair of employees told police that they found him prone with a pinkish liquid ozzing from his mouth and nose.

After stabilizing Odom, medics transported him to the desert View Hospital in nearby Pahrump. Attempts to airlift the 6”10’ Odom went in vain because he was too tall for the helicopter and was instead driven by ambulance to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.

Dennis Hof, owner of the Love Ranch told the Los Angeles Times that Odom, since Saturday, was a guest at his house, which is on the Love Ranch. He told the press that Odom wanted to “get away from everybody, wanted to have fun.”

Apart from his two championships with the Lakers in 2009-10 and being awarded the “Sixth Man of the Year” in 2011, Odom found fame off the hardwood as well. He appeared in the reality show “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” by virtue of his marriage to Khloe Kardashian in 2009. A spin-of based on the couple called “Khloe & Lamar”, which aired in 2011. After months of speculation, the two initiated divorce proceedings in December 2013, citing irreconcilable differences, though the divorce was never finalised.
