The Milwaukee Bucks have not utilized cream-colored city edition uniforms since the 2019-2020 season. After fans took to social media to voice their desire for the uniforms to return, Bucks chief marketing officer Dustin Godsey shared that it was not an organizational decision to scrap the popular uniforms.

Godsey tweeted:

"Just because I’ve seen it a bunch today: we aren’t allowed to do cream colored jerseys anymore. There are reasons, but suffice it to say it won’t appease anyone to get into it, so I’ll just say: we would if we could."

Why aren't the Milwaukee Bucks allowed to have cream-colored uniforms?

Milwaukee Bucks chief marketing officer Dustin Godsey initially did not want to elaborate on why the team isn't allowed to wear the uniforms. Eventually, however, Godsey discussed the situation with Paul Lukas, stating:

“I’m not sure I want to deal with the can of worms it will open, so I’ll tell you privately. But you, in particular, are going to hate it: Teams can’t wear cream anymore because it interferes with the digital ads that are placed on the court in broadcast due to the uniforms being so close to the color of the wood that is keyed out in the process.”

Godsey noted that the issues with digital advertisements began during the COVID-19 bubble in Orlando. He added that the Bucks will attempt to work around the ban with the NBA, as the cream color was a big part of their branding. He shared that the Philadelphia 76ers parchment-colored uniforms were also banned.

What are the Milwaukee Bucks 'City Edition' uniforms in 2022-2023?

The Milwaukee Bucks have unveiled a new 'City Edition' uniform and court, which they displayed for the first time Wednesday night against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Bucks defeated the Cavaliers 113-98 in their new threads to improve their record to 11-3.

Milwaukee's new 'Gathering Place' uniforms are inspired by the organization's role in the community and the 'Patchwork Mural'.

While the Bucks may not be allowed to wear their 'Cream City' edition uniforms due to digital advertising complications, their 'Gathering Place' edition uniforms have been well-received by fans. It remains to be seen if the Bucks and the NBA can find a resolution that allows the organization to wear cream-colored uniforms in the future.
