With the first overall NBA All-Star Game draft pick, James selected Kevin Durant who has a player option for the upcoming season, with the Golden State Warriors. He can opt out of his contract after this season and become a free agent.
He then selected Anthony Davis who has already conveyed to the New Orleans Pelicans that he has no intentions of signing a contract extension if offered. This even led to Giannis Antetokounmpo jokingly asking, "Is this not tampering?"
The Los Angeles Lakers reportedly decided to ship off their entire roster, before the trade deadline, in exchange for Anthony Davis before they realised that the Pelicans were just asking for too much.
James then went on to select Klay Thompson who is another superstar who can hit free agency in 2019. It is safe to say that LeBron came into the draft night with a plan.
