Entering the 2019 offseason, the Lakers have a huge lack of depth at center. The team has already dropped the ball by offloading the promising Ivica Zubac to the Clippers, whereas the veteran duo of JaVale McGee and Tyson Chandler are likely to exit after just one season with the team.

This leaves the team with Moritz Wagner, who has yet to show any sort of potential that suggests he can transform into a star.

The Lakers are known to want Anthony Davis as their new starting big, and the likes of DeMarcus Cousins and Julius Randle are also options. However, the team will still need a veteran to make an impact from the bench, and if Lopez is available on a veteran's minimum deal, it makes perfect sense for Magic Johnson to offer him a one-year contract.
