Lonzo Ball Can Be One Of The Greatest NBA Point Guards

Los Angeles Lakers v Philadelphia 76ers
Lonzo Ball

Lonzo Ball was the second overall pick of the 2017 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers. No other rookie has been hyped up as much as he has. Coming from the Ball family, we know that he is boasted about by his father, LaVar. But that doesn't give anyone the right to criticise Lonzo.

As a rookie, Ball had a triple-double in which he recorded 19 points, 13 assists and 12 rebounds in just the 13th game of his career at the age of only 20 years and 15 days. In doing so, he became the youngest player to ever record a triple-double in NBA history.

While he scored only three points in his first game, keep in mind that it was, in fact, only his first NBA game. He had nine rebounds, which is pretty impressive for a rookie, along with four assists. He would have gotten a couple more assists if the other players didn't miss open shots.

Many people don't know this, but Lonzo Ball is more of a facilitator than a scorer. The main job of a point guard is to run the game and score when free. Ball is doing a great job at that. I'm not going to deny that the Lakers are having a hard time winning, but let's give the rookie some time and stop criticising him based on what LaVar Ball has to say.

In every game, we see people trying to mock Lonzo by blocking him or fouling him in the last few seconds of the game. Give the kid some time and space. He's just a rookie trying to make a name for himself. Even though he is getting loads criticism and everyone is trying to bully him, he's trying his best and will be one of the greatest in the coming years.

He is one of the best passers in the NBA right now and he has great court vision. He is not putting up many points, but you have to give it to him. He's putting everything he has into the game.

In regard to defence, Lonzo has no fear, as he is averaging 0.83 blocks per game, which is the best average among point guards. An average of 1.35 steals per game is also stellar.

Lonzo will mature with time. The Lakers are one of the youngest teams in the NBA right now, anyway. With Brandon Ingram, Jordan Clarkson, Kyle Kuzma and Ball on the team, I see a bright future for the team.

In time, Lonzo Ball will turn out to be a great player, just as expected.
