NBA Stats: 5 players with the most triple-doubles as a rookie

Over the years, we have seen players in the NBA who have such all-around capabilities that they are able to impact the game from all the aspects. A triple-double is achieved when a player is able to finish with double digits in any three of the given categories - points, assists, rebounds, steals or blocks.

We see players with great all-around abilities like LeBron James who flirt with triple-doubles on a regular basis. Russell Westbrook has made a mockery of this glamorous stat line. He has averaged triple-doubles for three consecutive seasons. James Harden has recorded triple-doubles despite scoring 50+ points in matches.

These players contribute so much to their team that they regularly end up with triple-doubles in matches. However, ending with a triple-double in a match is not at all easy. This is one of the toughest stat lines for a player to get.

Alvan Adams was drafted as the number four overall pick in the 1975-76 season by the Phoenix Suns. He won the Rookie of the Year and recorded five triple-doubles during his rookie season.

Adams played in 988 games in his NBA career. He was an undersized center at 6'9". He finished with career averages of 14.1 points, 7.1 rebounds and 4.1 assists per match. Adams was selected for the All-Star team on one occasion.

Adams was a terrific all-around player. He had averages of 19 points, 9.1 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocks in his rookie season. Adams played for 13 seasons in the NBA with the Phoenix Suns and finally retired post the 1987-88 season.

He was the focal point of the 'Showtime' Lakers and won five NBA championships during his 13 years with the team. in his rookie season, Magic racked up seven triple-doubles and set the course for his legacy in the NBA.

Magic averaged 19.5 points, 7.2 rebounds and 11.2 assists per match for his career. Magic also won three regular season MVP titles and three Finals MVP awards. Magic was a 6'9" point guard and was one of his kind. His vision was off the charts.

The Hall of Famer was a 12-time All-Star and also made the All-NBA team on 10 occasions. His career was shortened due to illnesses but he still remains the standard of measurement at the point guard position.

Luka Doncic has started off his NBA career in spectacular fashion. He has looked very mature for his age and has dominated right from his first NBA game. Doncic received the Rookie of the Year award and ended the season with 8 triple-doubles.

Doncic filled up the stat sheet in his first year. He ended the year with averages of 21.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and six assists. Doncic is a terrific all-round player and is capable of impacting the game from all perspectives.

In the 2019-20 season, Luka has again started off on a very hot note. He has looked like an early MVP candidate and could be on the way to becoming the face of the NBA in the coming years.

Ben Simmons is a 6'10" point forward who was initially billed to play in the power forward position but has been playing point guard since day one.

Ben Simmons vision and playmaking abilities are just off the charts. Since day one in NBA, he has been a triple-double threat. In his rookie season, Simmons had 12 triple-doubles to his name. He averaged 15.8 points, 8.1 rebounds and 8.2 assists per match during his rookie season. Because of his dominant performances, he was also awarded the Rookie of the Year award despite tough competition from Donovan Mitchell and Jayson Tatum.

Simmons is one of the brightest young stars in the NBA and the Philadelphia 76ers could be contenders for years to come with him and Joel Embiid in the lineup.

Oscar Robertson leads the players with the most triple-doubles as a rookie. He had 26 triple doubles in his rookie season. He is also the current leader in total triple-doubles in the NBA with 181.

Robertson had one of the greatest rookie seasons ever. He averaged an astonishing 30.5 points, 10.1 rebounds and 9.7 assists and won the Rookie of the Year award.

Robertson also became the first player to average a triple double for the entire season in 1961-1962. During the season he averaged 30.8 points, 12.5 rebounds and 11.4 assists. Till date, he remains one of the most versatile players in NBA history.
