For the first time in a long while, the NBA Finals trophy was seen on the hardwood in Game 2 of the finals matchup between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Indiana Pacers. While it was a nostalgic feeling to see decals of the Larry O'Brien trophy on the court again, it wasn't exactly what fans expected.

The NBA decided to add a digital version of the decal instead, meaning that only people watching on TV would see the Larry O'Brien trophy, not the people in attendance. This isn't the first time something was digitally added on the hardwood, as TV viewers typically see shot clocks winding down during any game.

Fans on social media couldn't help but express their thoughts on seeing a couple of Larry O'Brien trophies on the hardwood in Game 2 of the finals. Here's what some said on X:

Here are other fan reactions on X:

"That’s weak but at least Silver listening to us I guess somewhat," one said.
"Once the trophy opens a bank account and starts writing Adam Silver some checks maybe it makes it to half court," another said.
"I thought I was the only one who noticed 😂 it’s so terrible," one wrote.

"It’s a step. Not a big one. Not even a small one. But it’s certainly a step," another said.

Adam Silver hints potential return of the NBA Finals logo in 2026

NBA fans have long requested the return of the Finals trophy decal on the hardwood. The last time the Larry O'Brien trophy appeared at center court was in the 2009 NBA Finals. Since then, the league decided to remove the decals.

League commissioner Adam Silver explained the decision to remove the beloved logo:

“One of the reasons we moved away from the logos on the courts is — whether it was perception or reality — there was a sense that maybe the logos added some slipperiness to the court, and it was a change, sort of on the court that was coming just at the time of the finals."

However, it seems that Silver could bring back the beloved logo in the 2026 NBA Finals. While he didn't confirm anything yet, the commissioner did say he'd think about it.

“I’m nostalgic," Silver said. "It’s nice when you’re looking back on highlights and they stand out because you see that trophy logo or some other indication that it’s a special event. So, we’ll look at it.”

For now, Adam Silver seems to be listening to the fans, as the league's broadcast team recently added digital versions of the Larry O'Brien trophy on the hardwood during Game 2 of the 2025 NBA Finals.
