Last season saw Al Horford reach the NBA Finals for the first time in his fifteen-year career. It marked a huge cause for celebration as the longtime veteran clinched the Eastern Conference title with the Boston Celtics. At the same time, Horford wound up finishing with a career-high percentage from the free-throw line, while posting some of the best stats of his career.

Horford and the Celtics seem poised to go on a tear again in the playoffs this season. The Celtics (18-4) have the best record in the league and are 2.0 games ahead of the Milwaukee Bucks (15-5), who are second in the East.

The Boston Celtics announced this week that they agreed on a two-year $20 million contract extension with Horford. At 36-years-old, Horford has continued to impress while defying the odds. As the game became increasingly dominated by the 3-point line, Horford worked on his shooting to increase his value.

While he may not be the biggest, strongest or the quickest big man in the NBA, Horford's veteran experience has proven invaluable. In honor of his recent contract extension, let's take a look at the career earnings of Al Horford.

After having a successful AAU career as a kid, Horford wound up committing to the University of Florida. There, under coach Billy Donovan, he found success despite missing a long stint in his second year due to injury. When he declared for the draft, Horford was selected as the third overall pick in 2007 by the Atlanta Hawks.

Horford played nine seasons in Atlanta, earning $3,745,800 in his rookie season, and $4,026,720 the following season. After two stellar seasons with the Hawks that saw him post impressive numbers, he earned $4,307,640 in his junior year before earning $5,444,857 in his final year.

After his rookie contract expired, the Hawks decided to lock Horford down to a five-year deal worth $60 million. The whopping amount saw his earnings skyrocket to $9,658,537 in a year where he only played 11 games due to injuries and the 2011-12 lockout. He made $12 million each in the next two seasons, before signing a life changing four-year $113 million deal with the Boston Celtics.

Since then, Horford's earnings have doubled from $12 million in his final season in Atlanta, to $26,640,100 in his first season with Boston. The amount only increased from there as he continued to earn between $26-29 million every season.

According to Spotrac, Al Horford has made over a quarter of a billion dollars in his career, $265,636,768 to be specific. With his new $20 million extension, Horford is poised to continue earning big for the next two seasons until he becomes a free agent.

With the Celtics currently dominating the East, Al Horford could secure quite the bonus if the team makes another deep playoff run.
