LA Lakers star Anthony Davis experienced a concerning moment during Sunday’s win over the Toronto Raptors when he suffered an eye injury. The incident took place in the third quarter when Davis made an incredible block against Jakob Poeltl, but was unintentionally poked in the left eye by Poeltl’s off-hand.
After the collision, Davis collapsed to the floor in visible pain and was unable to continue, raising concerns about his health as he left the game early, which ended in a 123-103 Lakers victory.
The incident sparked speculation about whether Davis might need to wear goggles in future games. However, Davis quickly dismissed the idea, saying he had been cleared to play without protective eyewear. When asked if he had considered wearing goggles, he replied:

“No. Because I don't want to. I wore goggles for three years when I was younger. Just don’t want to, to be honest.
Fortunately for Anthony Davis and the Lakers, they had two days off before their next game against the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday.
“It’s fine,” Davis said. “I’m doing fine… Nothing happens next, I’ll go about my days like I would any other day. There’s nothing that I need to do. Next step is getting some more sleep and getting ready for tomorrow.”
With a strong start to the season, averaging 31.2 points and 10.4 rebounds per game, Anthony Davis's presence is vital for the Lakers as they look to continue their momentum in upcoming games.
Anthony Davis to play vs Grizzlies
The LA Lakers have developed a fierce rivalry with the Memphis Grizzlies since their playoff series in 2023. The Lakers defeated Ja Morant’s team in six games, and LeBron James made his feelings clear during the process, including posting on Instagram:
“If you ever see me fighting in the forest with a Grizzly bear, HELP THE BEAR 👑”
The two teams clashed for the first time this season on Nov. 7, with the Grizzlies winning 131-114. Their next matchup is scheduled for Wednesday.
The Lakers started the 2024-25 season with a 6-4 slate, while the Grizzlies are 7-4.
