The Golden State Warriors are set to give Klay Thompson a tribute video ahead of his return to the Bay Area as part of the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday. Steph Curry was supposed to give a speech about him, but plans changed, and Warriors fans reacted to the news on social media.
According to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, coach Steve Kerr told reporters pregame that Curry and Thompson spoke last night regarding the tribute video. The former Warrior didn't want the two-time MVP to speak to the crowd and he obliged.
"Steve Kerr said that Steph Curry will not address the crowd about Klay Thompson pregame. He said Steph and Klay discussed it last night and both decided they’d rather focus on the game after tribute video," Slater tweeted.

Klay Thompson spent the first 13 seasons of his career with the Golden State Warriors. Thompson and Steph Curry were known as the Splash Brothers, winning four NBA championships together.
Warriors fans reacted to Curry and Thompson deciding against addressing the crowd on X, formerly known as Twitter.
"This became war real quick," a fan claimed.
"Thank God they didn't force Curry to go up there. There's nothing to say," one fan wrote.
"Exactly. Ain't nothing to address. Tribute video and hand them that a** whooping," another fan commented.
More fan comments seemingly agreed with the Splash Brothers' decision.
"Wasn't nothing to address to begin with. Do like every team has always done. Do a tribute video and that's it," a fan remarked.
"They will be brothers again and be like their old self again when they retire. Klay is just locked in and just focus on where he is right now," one fan opined.
"Get sentimental when his jersey is retired and he gets his statue, it’s time to win baby!" another fan commented.
Klay Thompson became a free agent at the end of the season and the Golden State Warriors tried to bring him back. However, Thompson wanted to prove something and decided to join the Dallas Mavericks in hopes of winning a championship without Steph Curry and the gang.
Both teams are looking to win the Emirates NBA Cup this season and a win is one step closer to doing it. The Warriors and Mavericks are in West Group C with the Memphis Grizzlies, New Orleans Pelicans and Denver Nuggets.
Warriors employees welcome Klay Thompson back with a touching tribute
When Klay Thompson arrived at the Chase Center, almost 400 employees of the Golden State Warriors welcomed him back. They each wore a captain's hat and tipped it for Thompson, who was wearing black sunglasses to possibly cover up his emotion.
It was not just a tribute to his contributions to the Warriors franchise, but also alluded to his love for the ocean. Thompson famously bought a boat during his recovery from injuries and used it to get to practice, as well as home games.
But now that he's in Dallas, Thompson can't spend a lot of time on his boat since there's no body of water near the area.
