Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green hit back at a fan criticizing his paycheck on Twitter.
Alongside Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry, Draymond Green is one of the three future Hall of Famers responsible for most of the success the Warriors have had in the past decade. Never a potent scorer, Green was picked as the 35th overall pick of the 2012 NBA draft by the Golden State Warriors.
As a 32-year old, Green has never averaged more than 10 points per game in the past five years. However, he is still an important part of the offense and is a defensive mainstay the team has been building around for many years.
Green has played a key role in redefining the position of power forward in the NBA, showing that players in the position can excel at multiple aspects of the game. During this time, he has won the NBA title 4 times and won the NBA Defensive Player of the year award in 2017. Fans of the game will know how important Green has been to the Warriors over the years.
However, when one fan poked fun at his $25.8 million a year contract, Draymond Green had a stern reply:
“Brother this team is worth 8 billion dollars. It was bought 8 months before I arrived for 500mm. Pretty sure my wins are warranted. Possibly should’ve made more NEXT!”
Versatile Draymond Green is integral to the Golden State Warriors
One of the things that sets Draymond Green apart from other power forwards is his versatility. He can play and defend in multiple positions, make plays for teammates, and is a great floor-spacer as well.
In his own words, Draymond Green previously explained how important he is to Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors’ success:
“ When I get the ball out I reverse it and change sides of the floor. I think that's the biggest difference. Obviously Steph [Curry] has to do a lot more off the dribble when I'm not playing as opposed to he doesn't have to be on the ball as much when I am playing because I sort of shoulder all of those responsibilities.”
He added:
“The same shots that he gets off the catch or off the move when I'm playing, it's not as simple because that's kind of my role on the team is handling a lot of those responsibilities and allowing him to freely move."
Over the years, Green's ability to switch between positions and guard players of various sizes has made him one of the best defenders in the league. He has allowed other offensively oriented players like Klay Thompson and Curry to focus on scoring and taking chances.
