The Golden State Warriors welcomed the Dallas Mavericks at the Chase Center on Tuesday night to start the 2024 Emirates NBA Cup. The Warriors fans gave a warm ovation to Klay Thompson, who was playing his first game back in the Bay Area since leaving in the offseason.

However, Steph Curry and the Warriors weren't going to be outshined as they outlasted the Mavericks 120-117. Curry had a huge game for Golden State, finishing with 37 points, six rebounds and nine assists. Draymond Green had a huge block on Daniel Gafford in the clutch that allowed the two-time MVP to take over.

Thompson, on the other hand, had 22 points in his return, hitting six 3-point shots. Luka Doncic had 31 points, eight rebounds and six assists, while Kyrie Irving added 21 points and six assists as the Mavericks lost their third game in a row to drop to 5-6 for the season.

Dallas Mavericks vs Golden State Warriors Game Summary

Klay Thompson was given a video tribute for all the contributions he made during his 13 seasons with the Golden State Warriors. He won four NBA championships with Steph Curry and Draymond Green, who dapped and hugged him before the game.

In the first quarter, Thompson got the first possession and backed down Curry, who was called for a foul. The Warriors would soon gain control of the period with their defense and 3-point shooting, earning a six-point lead after the first 12 minutes.

The Mavericks begin the second period on fire, going on a 21-8 run to start the quarter. Klay Thompson was one of the catalysts, hitting back-to-back 3-point shots. Curry had no choice but to shake his head and smile at what his former teammate was doing against them.

Dallas had an 11-point lead at the 3:19 mark of the quarter before the Warriors went on a run to end the half. The Mavericks are ahead 63-59 after the first two quarters.

In the third quarter, the Golden State Warriors went on their daunted run to take control of the game. The Warriors went up by as much as 13 points, but the Dallas Mavericks were not going down without a fight.

Led by Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, the Mavs were back in the game to start the first quarter. They trimmed the lead down and even overtook the Warriors courtesy of a Klay Thompson 3-point shot at the 7:33 mark.

It was a back-and-forth game for the rest of the period, with the Mavs looking like they were about to steal one. They were up by seven points before Steph Curry took over in the clutch. Curry scored the final 12 points for the Warriors to earn the 120-117 win.
