Donald Trump has increased the security around “major sporting events,” starting at the FIFA Club World Cup on Saturday. According to reports, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will monitor the event.
Non-U.S. citizens must "carry proof of legal status while attending the event," tweeted Olga Nesterova, a former UN diplomat.
Bill Russell’s daughter, Karen, reacted to the enhanced security at the Club World Cup at the Hardrock Stadium in Miami Gardens. She wrote on X:

“In so many ways, Trump really wants to kill sports for the rest of us. Is it because it inspirational and unites us? Is it because of the Blacks? Is it because he sucks at sports and gets booed at events? Not at that wrestling s**t. The good sports that have brought so many of us joy lately! I can tell you one thing we’re gonna fight back! Just like this big beautiful Bill!”

U.S. President Donald Trump issued a full or partial travel ban on travelers from 19 countries. The ban could impact the FIFA Club World Cup and other major sporting events in the country. The Athletic wrote about what it could mean for teams and players competing in Miami.
“A quick browse of the squads offers up potential challenges. At the Abu Dhabi club Al-Ain, for example, is the Sudanese player Mohamed Awadalla, and his country has seen all visas blocked — meaning he may require an exemption — while Inter Milan Iranian forward Mehdi Taremi may also be in the same position.”
According to a State Department official who talked to The Athletic, the ban has been enforced to “secure U.S. borders and protect American communities and citizens.” Donald Trump will send ICE and CBP to improve security in Miami.
Bill Russell’s daughter is a critic of Donald Trump’s use of ICE
Bill Russell’s daughter, a lawyer, has been critical of Donald Trump’s use of ICE. When Rolling Stone reported the arrest of a nine-month pregnant U.S. citizen during an ICE crackdown in LA, Karen Russell reacted:
“These ICE agents seemed cruel and not very bright like their leaders.”
The pregnant woman was reportedly detained for “obstructing the arrest of her undocumented husband.” She was eventually released, but many, including the renowned activist, did not hold back in blasting the agency and its leaders.
