Draymond Green plans out his ideal retirement scenario: “Yo, I’m just out here collecting checks”

Golden State Warriors star forward Draymond Green has been one of the most versatile players in the NBA throughout his career. Currently playing in his 11th season, Green knows the clock is winding down on his playing days.

Throughout his illustrious career, Green has become the heart and soul of the Warriors organization. One of the top defensive assets in basketball, Green has become a crucial part of Golden State's success over the years. While Green doesn't put up the biggest numbers, the team has leaned on him for his awareness and defensive ability.

Green has plenty of impressive accomplishments on his resume. He's a four-time NBA champion and has been named to the NBA's All-Defensive teams seven times.

Appearing recently on the Know Mercy with Stephen A. Smith podcast, Green said he was already preparing for life after basketball. Green said his "magic number" was 15 when it came to total seasons in the NBA.

“I’m 32 years old, if I’m being honest, I don’t want to play basketball until I’m 40. I really only want to play basketball for another four years after this. I’ve always said my magic number is 15 [years], once I get to 15, that’s it. I’m cool, go on and enjoy my life, leave it to the young guys to take it from there.”

Green went into depth about how the way he played the game would be difficult as he got older. Green joked that he did not want to be a trash talker when he was on the decline of his career.

"Reason being, I talk so much s–t to so many guys on the basketball court that I can’t be one of the guys lagging around in my career. At the end of my career lagging like, ‘Yo, I’m just out here collecting checks.’ I can’t be that guy, because everything that I dished out is going to come right back."

Draymond Green and Golden State Warriors look to get back on track

Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green knows that the clock is ticking regarding his NBA career. For now, Draymond and the Warriors will look to get back on the right track for the 2022-23 season.

Fresh off an NBA championship, Golden State looked like the team to beat coming into the 2022-23 regular season. The Warriors went on an impressive second-half stretch last year, defeating the Boston Celtics in six games in the NBA Finals.

After a slow start to the year, many expected Golden State to bounce back. The Warriors have shown before that they can go on impressive stretches after a sluggish start. Instead, it's been a rollercoaster of a season for Draymond Green and the Warriors. The team currently finds itself at 22-22 on the season and has won just two of the last five games.
