Draymond Green says San Antonio Spurs chasing NBA's attendance record wastes Steph Curry's drawing power

Draymond Green and the Golden State Warriors could play spoilers. The Spurs will attempt to break the NBA attendance record on Friday night. Last week, reports emerged that the team had emailed fans, announcing that they were nearing the NBA attendance record for their upcoming 50th-anniversary game at the Alamodome.

On Thursday morning, the team announced that they sold enough tickets to break the league's regular-season single-game attendance record. San Antonio fans answered the call from the team, purchasing 63,592 tickets in a massive outing that should see them set an NBA record.

Ahead of the game, Draymond Green questioned why the team was wasting their 50th-anniversary celebration against a team like the Warriors. With Steph Curry back from injury, the franchise's anniversary event could turn into a loss for the home crowd. Green spoke on The Draymond Green Show to discuss the situation, saying:

"Part of me is like why the hell the game has to be when we're coming to town and you're trying to break the attendance record and all of this but quite frankly we face a lot of things like that you know over the years Dallas will have whiteouts when we come to town and different things."

"So, from the business side of things I always wonder like if you're trying to break the attendance record in the big catch is like we're doing this at the Alamodome do you really want to waste your game against the warriors with Steph Curry coming to town and the draw that brings do you waste that game and do it at the Alamodome."

Draymond Green and the Golden State Warriors' recent struggles

It's no secret that Draymond Green and the Golden State Warriors are struggling this season. Although the team was eager to go back-to-back in the NBA Finals after their championship win last season, they've since struggled. Starting off the season, they couldn't put together a winning streak.

It wasn't until December that they rattled off four straight wins; however, an injury to Steph Curry cast a shadow over their end-of-year run. With Curry sidelined, the team struggling on the road, and a borderline .500 record, there was an air of pessimism surrounding the team.

Despite Steph Curry returning to the lineup ahead of schedule, the team is yet to return to the win column after their January 2nd win over Atlanta. The team recently talked about "righting the ship". Steph Curry spoke about the situation after the team lost 125-113 to the Phoenix Suns, who were playing without several key players.

With a long road trip ahead, the team needs to figure out how to win if they wish to make another playoff run.
