Dwyane Wade’s wife, Gabrielle Union, reveals the superstitious reason behind her husband getting her initials tattooed

Dwyane Wade's wife, Gabrielle Union, is one of the most recognizable significant others in the NBA. The couple's relationship has made the rounds in the media, with People Magazine even doing features on the power couple over the years. One of the most notable instances of the couple being in the spotlight was during their "Keep Movin'" Gatorade commercial series.

After marrying her first husband, NFL player Chris Howard, in 2001, the NFL star got a massive tattoo of Union's first name. As if getting a tattoo wasn't enough of a commitment, Howard got the tattoo done in an extremely unique font that looked difficult to cover up. After the pair split in 2005 and divorced in 2006, Union and Wade began dating in 2008.

The pair were married in 2014, cementing their status as one of the biggest power couples in the world today. To make things official, Wade got a tattoo of Union's initials several years later. Although at the time Wade didn't have a lot of tattoos, since his retirement he has continued to get more and more, making the "GU" tattoo stick out much less than it initially did.

She recalled the scenario during an interview with People Magazine, saying:

"He's like, 'I want us to work, so I'm only getting your initials. I'm getting it super small.' He's like, 'I don't need to learn that lesson, so Imma just go the opposite direction.'"

During the 1990s, Union's acting career quickly took off as she made appearances in TV shows and movies that earned her widespread fame. In 2004, Union won a BET Comedy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Box Office Movie for her performance in "Deliver Us From Eva."

Several years later, Union and Wade met at a Super Bowl party that they were both set to host. Although many may think that it was love at first sight, according to Union, it was anything but. With her and her friends on one side of the room, and Wade and his friends on the other side of the room, it was a tale of two parties.

On one hand, Union and her friends were partying it up while enjoying themselves. On the other side of the room, Wade, who doesn't drink, and his friends were sitting around talking. The way Union tells it, Wade was hosting a bible study in comparison.

With Wade being around 10 years younger than Union, it's no surprise that she was hesitant to give him a chance. After some time, the two decided to give things a try and the rest, as they say, is history.

When they married, Union took Wade's kids as her own, before the couple then wound up having a child of their own several years later. With Wade inking Union's initials on him, it seems like the two are meant to be together.
