Former Rutgers guard Dylan Harper is expected to be one of the first names called at the 2025 NBA draft. The 6-foot-6 guard impressed during his rookie season and teams at the top of the lottery have all expressed interest in him. However, his father, Ron Harper, said that his son never worked out for any teams as part of the pre-draft process, shooting down rumors.
Harper is a top prospect this season, but he is not the first of the former Chicago Bulls guard's children to find their way into the NBA. The five-time NBA champion did his best to ensure that both Dylan and Ron Harper Jr. got to the professional level.
However, the younger Harper brother will come into the league with much higher expectations after averaging almost 20 points a game in college alongside Ace Bailey.

NBATV analyst Krysten Peek spoke with Harper about what he is doing to prepare for the draft later in June. According to the 19-year-old, he is happy with how things are going and feels good about his preparation. However, his father took to X on Thursday afternoon to call out reporters and set the record straight on how his son is handling workouts ahead of the draft.

"Stop lying please he has not work(ed) out out for no teams they came to see him workout. Your facts are wrong…. Clown," Harper tweeted.
Harper has been supportive of his son as he gets ready to join the NBA, and this is not the first time he has defended his children against the media. The report given by Peek and other reporters could have been misinterpreted as Harper considering a team other than the San Antonio Spurs, who are projected to take him at No. 2, according to CBS Sports.
Is there any chance that Dylan Harper will not head to the Spurs as the No. 2 pick?
Throughout the combine and pre-draft workouts, Dylan Harper has distanced himself as the clear No. 2 prospect in the draft behind Cooper Flagg. He and Ace Bailey were interchangeable for months during the college basketball season but Bailey is behind his former teammate on most draft boards. However, the Spurs might not own the second pick when the draft starts.
Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo has not requested a trade yet, but he is expected to do so soon to find a better situation. If he does become available, there will be 29 teams interested in trading for him. One of the front-runners rumored to land him is San Antonio, largely thanks to their position in the draft.
The Spurs own the second and 14th picks in the draft and could add one or both selections to the Bucks as part of the trade package for Antetokounmpo. Reports from NBATV analyst Krysten Peek and others don't say which teams came to see Harper work out, but they are keeping their options open ahead of what could be the beginning of a chaotic summer in the NBA world.
