Nikola Jokic is the second Magic Johnson Western Conference Finals MVP award in NBA playoffs history. The "Joker" guided the Denver Nuggets to a series sweep win over the LA Lakers, averaging a triple-double across four games. The Nuggets have made their maiden NBA Finals appearance in franchise history. Jokic put together a historic run in the Conference finals to help his team prevail against the resurgent LeBron James and Anthony Davis-led LA Lakers. He averaged 27.8 points, 14.5 rebounds and 11.8 points to claim the WCF MVP award. Jokic's dominance was crucial in the grand scheme of things for the Nuggets. Not only did he keep his scoring rate up, but he put his teammates in an excellent position to succeed. The Nuggets had four players averaging 14 points or more. That's an incredible feat considering they were up against arguably the best defensive team in the playoffs, spearheaded by a beast like Anthony Davis, who led the postseason in steals and blocks. Nikola Jokic outplayed his counterpart, despite many believing that AD would trouble him. However, the Serbian didn't win two MVP awards in the last three years and finish second this year for no reason. He dug deep into the best version of himself in this series to hand the Nuggets their first finals appearance. Nuggets fans went into a frenzy after the Conference finals concluded on Monday. They called out MVP voters for not awarding Jokic the highest individual honor for the third successive year, despite being deserving of it. It was a long process, but they're here to stay. They were 100% healthy for the first time, with a more experienced Jokic, with a better team around him and Jamal Murray featuring defensive-minded players like Aaron Gordon, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Bruce Brown. Michael Porter Jr. stepped up in the big moments, too, showing off his range throughout the playoffs, especially against the Lakers. The Nuggets were arguably the most disrespected No. 1 seed entering the 2023 playoffs. Denver Nuggets v Los Angeles Lakers - Game FourTheir ability to get past the first round was questioned by many, with the West being wide open. However, the Nuggets steamrolled past every opponent they faced. The Lakers were arguably their toughest assignment, but Nikola Jokic and co. recorded a series sweep. The Nuggets' championship window is now wide open, and they could possibly form a dynasty of their own starting this year. They arguably have the best player in the world, one of the best point guards in the league and tremendous length and size on the wings. Not to forget, they are also one of the most well-coached teams. Coach Michael Malone has been spot-on with his adjustments in every series so far.
