When he was with the Utah Jazz, he slowly developed into a star player. Hayward only had one season where he averaged at least 20 points per season. After suffering a gruesome ankle injury in the first game of the 2017-18 season, he was never the same player and started to decline.

He hasn't done anything to lead the team into the postseason. Ironically, the team hasn't done anything major to help Hayward and its young core. Although he did show flashes of his old self during his first season with the Hornets, the 6-foot-8 swingman couldn't keep up. Last season, Hayward only averaged 15.9 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists. All that while, he shot 45.9%, including 39.1% from the 3-point area.

His numbers are still decent for a team that's looking for other options in the lineup. But his contract may seem a bit too much for most teams. At this point, it's unlikely that a contract buyout will happen.
