Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum is one of the best scorers in the NBA. Yet, during a hoops session against a fan in China, Tatum appeared to have forgotten the fundamentals of making easy baskets close to the rim.

In a clip posted by NBA parody page '@TheNBACentel', Tatum can be seen attempting and failing to hit a layup. Even worse, he missed three seemingly easy shots in a row.

Some of the fans who saw Tatum's clip could not help but compare him to WNBA rookie Angel Reese.

"That’s a good impression of Angel Reese," @icecoldfootball tweeted.
"He went to the Angel Reese clinic on layups," @MikeRay_22 added.
"Didn't know Angel Reese changed her name to 'Jayson Tatum,'" @tejp_22 joked.

The roasting didn't end with Angel Reese comparisons. Other fans also used this as an opportunity to explain why he played fewer minutes during the 2024 Paris Olympics.

"And people question why he was benched," @nthnation said.
"Why are we expecting so much from a role player?" @bxordman asked.
"No wonder he sat da bench in Olympics! He fell TF off!" @DamHesFresh tweeted.

While this clip can be hilarious to some, it is far from a representation of the work that Jayson Tatum is doing in the offseason.

The more likely explanation is that he's doing it to elicit a reaction from the fans there or that he's simply not taking it seriously. After all, there's no point in going hard and potentially placing himself or a fan in a situation where either of them could get hurt.

Why is Jayson Tatum in China?

Jayson Tatum recently finished playing in France with Team USA at the Summer Olympics and now, he's in an entirely different country, China. However, he is not in Asia simply for a vacation.

Instead, he is visiting the country as part of his duties as a Jordan Brand ambassador. Tatum is visiting China along with fellow Jordan athletes Luka Doncic, Zion Williamson and Paolo Banchero.

As brand ambassadors, this quartet of NBA stars are responsible for promoting the brand's sneakers and other apparel to basketball fans all over the world. During their trip, they engage with fans by signing autographs, taking photos and even playing pickup games.

Events wherein stars travel and promote the brand that they are an ambassador of are typical for the offseason.

Jayson Tatum has been a Jordan Brand ambassador since 2019 and to date, has released two signature sneakers. The first colorways for his third signature shoe, the Tatum 3, will reportedly become available later on in October.
