"He's lucky Alabama is behind the times" - Charles Barkley thinks Brandon Miller should have received 'time out' for supplying gun used in murder

Alabama star freshman Brandon Miller owned the gun that a killed a young woman named Jamea Harris on their campus last January. However, the university didn't punish Miller and he was not charged with anything due to an existing state law.

However, NBA legend and Auburn alumnus Charles Barkley implied in an interview with AL.com that Miller should have been suspended by Alabama. Barkley blamed the old ways of the state for what had happened and thought that Miller would be charged with a crime in a different state.

"He should have been given a time out to learn decisions have consequences," Barkley said. "He's lucky Alabama is behind the times. In 49 other states, he probably would have been charged with a crime."

Charles Barkley added that Brandon Miller might be feeling the pressure of the controversy now. After scoring 41 points against South Carolina a couple of weeks ago, Miller and the Crimson Tide have struggled from the floor.

"He came out and had a monster game against South Carolina, but he hasn't played well since then," Barkley said. "I think the pressure is getting to him. Everybody's talking about it and he's got to hear it. The pressure's only going to get worse. A**hole fans will be on him."

Miller is averaging 19.6 ppg, 8.0 rpg and 1.8 apg this season heading into the SEC Tournament. He's shooting 45.3% from the field and 40.4% from beyond the arc. He's a top prospect for the upcoming 2023 NBA draft behind Victor Wembanyama and Scoot Henderson.

More than a month after his lawyer released a statement on Jamea Harris' murder, Brandon Miller finally addressed the issue a day ahead of Alabama's first SEC Tournament game. Miller called the situation heartbreaking for the Harris family, but wouldn't make any more comments about it.

"I never lose sight of the fact that a family has lost one of their loved ones that night," Miller said. "This whole situation is just really heartbreaking. Respectfully, that's all I'm gonna be able to say on that."

The University of Alabama has poorly handled the situation by not suspending Miller. Crimson Tide head coach Nate Oats made it worse with his insensitive comments and failing to prevent Miller's pat-down pregame celebration.

Miller has not been charged with anything, but his gun being used in a murder will linger as the NBA draft approaches. His former teammate Darius Miles and alleged shooter Michael Davis are still waiting for a verdict following the preliminary trial.
