Shawn Kemp enjoyed a decent stint in the NBA. He was voted an All-Star six times during his 14-year career. Apart from being a renowned basketball player, Kemp also received attention due to his unusual personal life.

The former Seattle SuperSonics forward has seven children with six different women. Kemp's oldest son, Shawn Kemp Jr., played college basketball for Washington, while Jamon played for Southern Eastern Louisiana University. Kemp had three children, including Shawn Jr. and Jamon, with Marvena Thomas. The former All-Star married four other women after his marriage to Thomas ended.

Shawn Kemp's personal life hampered his NBA career

If not for controversies off the court, Kemp could've been a potential Hall of Famer.

He had issues with his physical conditioning entering training camps that contributed to his downfall. Kemp also dealt with drug and alcohol abuse towards the end of his NBA career.

The issues cropped up right when Kemp was at his peak. He enjoyed his best years in Cleveland after joining the Cavs in 1997. Kemp averaged 18 points per game during his time with the Cavs, but his production significantly plummeted when he joined the Portland Trail Blazers. He averaged 6.5 points in 2000, 6.1 points in 2001, and 6.8 points with the Orlando Magic in 2002.

His off-court issues expanded to drug and alcohol abuse during his time with the Trail Blazers. Shawn Kemp underwent rehab in his second season with the franchise to recover from his addiction.

Kemp played 72 games in his final season, but he was far from being the force he was in previous seasons. After his final NBA season, Kemp also dealt with the financial pressure of providing for his seven children.

The former Seattle SuperSonic came close to making an NBA comeback in 2005 with the Dallas Mavericks, but that move didn't materialize. Shortly after, Kemp was arrested in 2005 and 2006 for drug possession. He attempted an NBA return with the Denver Nuggets in 2006, but that didn't come to fruition either.

Kemp never secured an NBA spot again and ended his professional career in Rome.
