LA Lakers star forward LeBron James is now the NBA’s all-time leading scorer with 38,390 career points and counting. James passed Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38,387 career points) tonight against the OKC Thunder to set the record. James needed 36 points entering the night to break Abdul-Jabbar’s record.

He proceeded to finish with 38 points to go along with seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals on 65.0% shooting. This included 20 first-half points and 16 third-quarter points to set the record before the start of the fourth quarter.

Following James’ record-breaking fadeaway shot in the third quarter, the game was halted for a brief ceremony involving NBA commissioner Adam Silver and NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. James also gave a speech to the Lakers’ crowd.

“I just want to say thank you to the Laker faithful," James said.
“You guys are one of a kind. To be able to be in the presence of such a legend as great as Kareem, it’s very humbling,” James continued.

Despite LeBron James’ big night, he was let down by co-star Anthony Davis. Davis finished with just 13 points, eight rebounds, and two steals on 66.7% shooting. However, veteran point guard Russell Westbrook still contributed 27 points, eight assists, and two steals on 52.6% shooting for LA.

Meanwhile, the Thunder were led by star guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who finished with 30 points, eight assists, and two steals on 52.9% shooting. Rookie wing Jalen Williams also added 25 points, seven rebounds, and six steals on 52.6% shooting for OKC.

The game marked a crucial game for both the LA Lakers and OKC Thunder in their battle for a playoff spot. Unfortunately, for the Lakers, they weren't able to come away with the win on James’ record-breaking night as they lost 133-130.

With their loss, the Lakers dropped to 25-30 and remain 13th in the Western Conference. Meanwhile, the Thunder improved to 26-28 and are now tied for 11th in the West.
