Joel Embiid continued his blistering form as the Philadelphia 76ers walloped the Charlotte Hornets 121-82. "The Process" played just 29 minutes and finished with 38 points, 13 rebounds, five assists and four blocks in another overwhelmingly dominating performance.

Fans quickly reacted to his performance:

"Undisputed without a doubt MVP"

The Philadelphia 76ers have gone 9-3 since the All-Star break. During that stretch, he is averaging 35.1 points, 10.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.5 blocks. Embiid is also hitting 59.9% of his shots.

The MVP race seemed all but over with Nikola Jokic posting mind-boggling stats game after game. Denver, however, is just 6-5 past the All-Star break and went on a four-game losing streak before beating the hapless Detroit Pistons on Thursday.

Jokic's Nuggets lost at home to the Chicago Bulls and the Brooklyn Nets. They got beaten on the road by the San Antonio Spurs and then gave up 49 first-quarter points in another loss to the Toronto Raptors.

The Nuggets' losses have been brutal, while the 76ers, behind Embiid's incredible stretch, have been churning out impressive wins.

Philly's schedule is considered to be the toughest after the All-Star game. And yet, they seem to be going from strength to strength. Joel Embiid was the Eastern Conference Player of the Month in December and January. He's on track to win that award once again by the time March flips to April.

Yesterday, the NBA released its weekly MVP ladder, which had Joel Embiid leading it, followed by Jokic and then Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Joel Embiid has to sustain his sizzling form to win his first MVP award

Joel Embiid has placed second to Nikola Jokic over the past two MVP races. It seemed like nothing was going to change this year until Philly's surge in the Eastern Conference standings behind his impressive performances.

Fox Sports analyst Nick Wright had this to say about Embiid's insane numbers:

"He’s averaging 33.5 PPG this year.
"He’s the only C to average 30+ in 40 years, and he’s about to do it a 2nd time.
"Only players to average more PPG than Embiid this year in last 40 years are Harden, Kobe & MJ."

The Philadelphia 76ers (47-22) are now just 2.5 games behind the Milwaukee Bucks (50-20) for the best record in the East. Philly still have 12 games remaining in their schedule.

If the 76ers somehow manage to win the East behind Joel Embiid's sizzling form, the NBA may be hard-pressed to deny him the MVP trophy.

Nikola Jokic, however, will not go away easily. He doesn't seem to care about winning the coveted honor, but he will surely play his best to keep the Denver Nuggets at the top of the west.

Denver (47-23) is now just 4.5 games ahead of the surging Sacramento Kings (42-27) for the best win-loss slate in the west. Jokic also knows that they can't afford to enter the playoffs in poor form, so they're likely to push hard to get their edge back.

The last few weeks of the regular season could determine who lifts the inaugural Michael Jordan MVP Trophy.
