Is Anthony Davis playing tonight vs Hawks? Latest on Lakers superstar's availability (Dec. 6, 2024)

Anthony Davis will be in the spotlight as he will be tasked to lead the struggling LA Lakers against the Atlanta Hawks at the State Farm Arena on Friday. The big has fizzled out in the last few games for the Purple and Gold as they look to get their fast-sliding campaign back on track. Davis comes off a forgettable outing in their 41-point drubbing against the Miami Heat.

The MVP and DPOY candidate, whose stocks in both categories have taken a hit after a series of quiet performances is expected to suit up against the impressive Hawks outfit. Atlanta comes into the contest on the back of a 5-0 run and has a distinct advantage over LA. Davis was listed as probable with left plantar fasciitis but will be taking the floor against Trae Young and Co. as he is listed as available to play for the Lakers.

Anthony Davis minced no words when speaking to the reporters in the aftermath of the abysmal loss to the Heat. He also took accountability saying he wasn't doing enough individually. Per The Athletic's Jovan Buha:

“I hate losing. The way we’re losing, we’re playing bad, blown out. I’m not playing well individually. It’s an accumulation of things and it’s frustrating. … And it’s on us. It’s on us players, to be honest. We’re getting the schemes. The schemes are on point. But we just gotta go out and do it and execute ’em. But I just gotta step up for the team.”

Davis ended with eight points, seven rebounds, and five assists in his 31 minutes on the court against Miami as LA hurtled to a 134-93 defeat. The loss saw them slip to 12-10 after opening the season with a healthy 10-4 record. In four of their six losses over this period, they’ve lost by 20+ points.

The big has still been the best player for the LA Lakers this season averaging 26.9 points, 11.3 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.9 blocks on 53.0% shooting from the field and 34.9% from beyond the arc. Anthony Davis and the sputtering LA unit will hope to restore some parity to their campaign with a win over Atlanta and carry that momentum forward.
