He scored 12 points in just 15 minutes of action, shooting 5 of 11, including 2 of 4 from 3-point range. Brunson also dished three assists.

The Knicks won the contest, 111-109. Brunson was making a comeback from a left-hand fracture, which he suffered during the Knicks' 2023 Eastern Conference semis Game 7 loss to the Indiana Pacers in May.

Jalen Brunson hopes Knicks only get better than what they were last year

Brunson and the Knicks have made strides since he moved to the Big Apple. With back-to-back conference semis trips in his first two seasons, the star point guard wants to get better with New York this year.

"We want to be better than we were last year... We can't get back to Game 7 in the second round," Jalen Brunson told reporters on Media Day on Sept. 30. "We have to start all over again. That's the beauty about all of this."

Brunson remains the key for the Knicks despite their roster upgrades this summer in the form of Karl-Anthony Towns and Mikal Bridges. The former Maverick has had one breakout year after another and his steady improvement has been the difference-maker for the Knicks.

Jalen Brunson's presence was one of the key reasons why the Knicks even made it past the first round in the last two years, especially the past season. New York was as shorthanded as it could get, playing without former star Julius Randle, who missed the entire playoffs and starting center Mitchell Robinson playing limited games. OG Anunoby also dealt with a few blows along the way.

Nevertheless, Brunson kept them in the hunt, showing enough to generate confidence in a healthy Knicks roster to win the East this upcoming season.
