Steph Curry sat out of the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers matchup on Friday night. Despite his absence, the Warriors were able to defeat the Cavs 120-114. Steph was ruled out of their last game to rest him after their game against the Boston Celtics that ended in overtime. The Warriors are being extra cautious with him since he's still fresh from his injury.
Now, after taking time to rest, Sports Illustrated reports that Steph Curry will be available for Sunday's game against the Brooklyn Nets. While it's important for the Warriors to protect Curry from another injury, the two-time MVP needs to find his rhythm again. Since coming back on January 10, Steph has played rather inconsistently. He's clearly showing signs of rust, which he needs to brush off.
Can Steph Curry lead the Golden State Warriors to a successful title defense?
As of this writing, there are only 36 NBA regular-season games left for the Golden State Warriors to clinch their playoff spot. They currently have a 23-23 record and are sitting as the sixth seed. Looking at the record in the Western Conference, the majority of the teams from the seventh seed below are just a couple of games behind the Warriors. At this point, Golden State isn't safe from elimination yet.
Luckily, Steph Curry finally made his awaited return on January 10 from a left shoulder injury. While it's great to have him back, Curry hasn't necessarily been performing the way he did earlier this season. He isn't to blame as he's still a bit rusty after being out for almost a month. However, the Warriors might need his shooting prowess soon if they continue to suffer losses in the coming games.
Since returning from injury, Steph Curry is averaging 25.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists. He's been shooting 43.6% from the field and only 33% from long distance in the five games he's played since coming back. But it isn't Curry's fault as he's still technically recovering from his injury. However, he's going to need to find his stroke soon to keep Golden State's hopes of defending the title alive.
