Coming off a championship victory with the Boston Celtics, Jayson Tatum is eligible to sign a contract extension this offseason. After seeing the size of the potential deal, NBA fans were left speechless.
Having made All-NBA, Tatum is capable of signing a supermax extension to remain in Boston. If the Celtics offer him this contract, he'll be set to make $315 million over five years. This massive number resulted in a flurry of different reactions from fans.

"He’s a glorified role player," one fan said.
Many fans brought up Tatum's performance against the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals as a reason why he shouldn't get this massive deal.
"He’s not worth it did they even watch his finals performance?" another fan said.
"Why pay this much for a second fiddle?" one fan said.
"Yeah dude averaged 18 PPG in the Finals to get the Max," another fan said.
Jayson Tatum did a little bit of everything for the Celtics in their finals win over the Mavs. In the series, he averaged 22.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 7.2 assists. Tatum's best performance came in the series clincher, nearly notching a triple-double. He finished Game 5 with 31 points, eight rebounds and 11 assists.
Jayson Tatum's supermax would break current teammate's record
In the event that Jayson Tatum does get a supermax extension from the Boston Celtics, the team will be paying two players over $600 million. On top of that, the star forward will be breaking a record previously set by one of his teammates.
One of the biggest stories in the NBA last offseason was Jaylen Brown signing a historic contract. It was the largest deal ever signed in the league at the time, with a chance to be valued at $304 million.
If Jayson Tatum signs this deal, it will mark the second straight offseason the Celtics have offered a player the largest contract in history. Seeing that Brown got a supermax last summer, it'd be shocking if Tatum wasn't offered the same in a few weeks.
Since being drafted third overall in 2017, Tatum has emerged as arguably the Celtics' best player. He's been named an All-Star on five occasions and made four All-NBA teams. During the regular season, Tatum averaged 26.9 points, 8.1 rebounds and 4.9 assists.
At 26 years old, Tatum is just getting ready to start his prime in the NBA. Based on all that he's accomplished thus far, the Celtics would be foolish not to offer him the supermax. He's continued to expand his game since entering the pros and has the potential to be one of the league's top stars in the very near future. Signing a player like that long-term is a no-brainer for any front office.
