Jimmy Butler and the Golden State Warriors were defeated by the Houston Rockets 131-116 in Game 5 of their Western Conference first-round series on Wednesday at Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
Butler finished with eight points and five rebounds on 2-for-10 shooting (0-for-3 from 3-point range). In 25 minutes, he also had two assists and two steals. He went 4-for-5 from the free-throw line.
The Warriors still lead the series 3-2 and are on the brink of advancing to the second round. Game 6 of the best-of-series is on Friday at Chase Center in San Francisco, California. If necessary, a Game 7 will be played on Sunday in Houston.

In three playoff games this season, Butler is averaging 18.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.7 steals. In 30.0 minutes per game, he is shooting 54.5% (50.0% from the 3-point line).

On Wednesday, Butler went scoreless in the first quarter in nine and a half minutes. He went 0-for-3 (0-for-2 on 3-pointers). He had two assists and a steal. Golden State trailed 40-24 after the opening period.
Butler scored six points in nearly 10 second-quarter minutes. By halftime, he has already recorded four rebounds, two assists and two steals. He had struggled shooting the ball, hitting just 1-for-7. He missed three 3-point attempts but went 4-for-5 from the free-throw line.
Butler played just six minutes the rest of the game as coach Steve Kerr pulled his starters out halfway into the third quarter. At that point, the Rockets were leading by 29. Butler played 25:21 minutes in the blowout loss.

Following the Golden State Warriors' 109-106 Game 4 win to go up 3-1 in the series against the Houston Rockets, coach Steve Kerr praised Jimmy Butler's toughness. NBA insider Anthony Slater shared Kerr's postgame comments on X/Twitter.
"We have to have him," Kerr said. "I mean, If it were the regular season, he’d probably miss another week or two. But it’s the playoffs and he’s Jimmy Butler. So, this is what he does. ... Jimmy was just amazing."
Kerr praised Butler's performance down the stretch. The six-time All-Star had a huge rebound and knocked two free throws to seal the win for the Warriors.
Butler, a known playoff performer, played 40 minutes on Monday and finished with 27 points, five rebounds and six assists. He shot 7-for-12 (1-for-2 from 3-point range) and went 12-for-12 from the free-throw line.
