Speaking to reporters after the game, Mazzulla was asked about an update on Tatum's status. The Celtics superstar seemingly ruptured his Achilles tendon in his right leg while trying to go after a loose ball late in the fourth quarter. The championship-winning coach revealed that Tatum will undergo further testing.

Mazzulla also shared that it was a lower-body injury, and it was tough for him to watch his star player get carried because he couldn't walk.

"It's tough to watch a guy like him get carried off like that," Mazzulla said, according to SB Nation's Noa Danzell.

With the Boston Celtics down late in the fourth quarter, Jaylen Brown lost the ball against Mikal Bridges on the dribble. The ball was loose, and Jayson Tatum tried to dive for a loose ball. However, his right leg buckled as he went down in pain with a non-contact leg injury.

According to Dr. Jesse Morse on X, formerly known as Twitter, Tatum might have suffered a torn Achilles tendon in his right leg. The classic signs of the leg giving out and the player immediately grabbing it in pain were there. It could also be a sprained ankle or fracture, but it appears unlikely due to the footage available.

If it's a torn Achilles tendon for Tatum, he'll be out for the rest of the playoffs and could miss the entire 2025-26 NBA season. It's a tough blow for the defending champions as they return home to Boston down 3-1 in the series against the New York Knicks.

Jayson Tatum scores 42 points in Celtics' loss in Game 4

The Boston Celtics needed to win Game 4 to even their series against the New York Knicks. The Celtics looked locked in the first half, especially Jayson Tatum, as the visitors quickly built a double-digit advantage.

However, the Knicks had a huge third quarter and completely took over the game. Tatum did his best to keep Boston afloat, scoring 42 points plus grabbing eight rebounds and four assists. His injury sucked the life out of the Celtics as they lost Game 4, 121-113.
