Jordan Poole sounded off about Steph Curry's late-game ejection during the Golden State Warriors' 122-120 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday (Jan. 25). Curry tossed his mouthguard in frustration after Poole made an ill-advised shot attempt with the Warriors up 116-114 with 1:14 left on the clock.
The refs issued Curry a technical and ejected him from the game for his reaction. Poole vented his frustration at the call after the game, saying (via Talkin' NBA):
"No reason he should be thrown out in the last 3 minutes of the game. He's one of the greatest players of all-time."
Steph Curry has three career ejections. Interestingly, all of them have happened due to him tossing his mouthguard. Fortunately, the Golden State Warriors held off the Memphis Grizzlies without Curry in the clutch to secure the win.
The Dubs were a game behind the .500 mark and desperately needed the win. Curry was firing on all cylinders, bagging 34 points on 53/50/91 splits until that point. Klay Thompson and Jordan Poole handled things in Curry's absence in the dying moments.
Thompson hit a 3-pointer to help the Warriors regain a two-point lead with 14.6 seconds left, while Poole hit a game-winning layup to award the Warriors their 25th win.
Steph Curry's ejection during Memphis Grizzlies-Golden State Warriors game was harsh
Jordan Poole wasn't far away from his assessment of Steph Curry's ejection. Curry vented his frustrations at his own teammate's ill-advised play. It was also a crunch-time situation, so Curry should've been given the benefit of the doubt.
However, officiating has been in question all season long in some of these games. The referees have been strict with their foul calls on most, if not all, occasions. The Warriors were fortunate enough to escape another disheartening loss.
The Golden State Warriors also competed well down the stretch in general, something they have struggled with all year. They fell behind by 10 points midway through the third quarter but didn't let the Memphis Grizzlies secure a bigger lead than that.
Klay Thompson (24 points), Jordan Poole (21 points and seven assists) and Jonathan Kuminga (13 points) provided excellent support to Steph Curry as the Warriors secured a huge win over a rival contender.
The Golden State Warriors are now eighth in the Western Conference, two games behind the fourth seed and a game behind the sixth seed. The West remains wide open, but it won't stay that way for long, so the Warriors need to string together a bunch of wins entering the All-Star break.
