JR Smith believes playing with LeBron James can ‘Eat you alive’: “It’s a gift and a curse playing with Bron”

LeBron James has been one of the most dominant superstars in the NBA over the years. But playing alongside a talent like James can come with a price. That's just what J.R. Smith, who spent four years with James as a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers, believes.

James has cemented himself as one of the greatest talents in the league's history. But with that type of reputation comes the belief that results must follow.

Players have often flocked at the opportunity to play alongside LeBron. On one hand, James is one of the league's most talented players. On the other hand, LeBron has often played on the biggest stage.

Appearing on HBO's "Game Theory with Bomani Jones," J.R. Smith opened up about how it was to be LeBron James' teammate:

“It’s a gift and a curse playing with Bron. ... I love Bron to death, and I love playing on his team, because, for me, I feel like I thrive more under the pressure, but a lot of guys don’t like it.”

Smith said that if the supporting cast isn't doing its job, those players won't be able to escape the criticism.

“It’s always gonna be that supporting cast of who’s not doing what, and if you’re not built for that, not made for that, it’s gonna eat you alive," Smith said.

LA Lakers face uphill battle with LeBron James sidelined

The LA Lakers were hoping to make a push in the Western Conference standings after the All-Star break. After LeBron James' latest injury, that could prove to be problematic.

LeBron sustained a right foot tendon injury and is set to be re-evaluated in "about three weeks." That means for the Lakers to make the playoffs, they are going to have to do most of the lifting without their superstar.
