"Just let him go to LA, please!", "Dame to the Clips or Bucks" - Fans react to Damian Lillard comments about Blazers rebuild

Damian Lillard and the Portland Trail Blazers have lost six games in a row and have won just two of their last ten. The Blazers will likely not make the play-in tournament and will be in the lottery again.

After their loss to the LA Clippers on Sunday (Mar. 19), Lillard was asked about the possibility of the Blazers rebuilding in the offseason. The team were sellers at the trade deadline, and their depth was affected in the final third of the season. However, Lillard sounded upset at the notion of a rebuilding team.

"That's not what I'm interested in," Lillard said. "That's what the frustrating part of it is. Talking about what's gonna happen next season. And us 'building'. That's not what I'm here to do, especially at this stage of my career."

Damian Lillard was clearly frustrated that the Portland Trail Blazers will likely miss the postseason for the second straight year. He had signed a two-year extension in the offseason that will kick in at the start of the 2025-26 season.

That means Lillard cannot enter free agency until after the 2026-27 season, when he will be 37. The seven-time All-Star has been loyal to the Blazers, but it seems like they won't be contending for a championship anytime soon.

Fans on social media began asking Lillard to demand a trade out of Portland and join a contender. With more than $200 million worth of salary for the next four seasons, it would be difficult for the Blazers to find the right trade for their superstar at the moment, though.

One said:

"Just let him go to LA, please! POR making him suffer"

Another chimed in:

"Dame to the Clips or Bucks would feed families"

Will Damian Lillard demand a trade out of Portland?

Damian Lillard has been loyal to the Portland Trail Blazers, signing a two-year extension last summer that essentially guarantees that he'll retire there. However, Lillard is frustrated with how their season is ending this season.

The Blazers are virtually out of playoff contention and could enter another rebuilding summer. So, will Lillard finally chase a championship and demand a trade out of Portland?

Well, that remains to be seen, as the Blazers have a first-round pick this year. If they beat the odds in the lottery, Portland could end up with someone like Victor Wembanyama or Brandon Miller. If they draft Scoot Henderson, it's certainly possible for the Blazers to trade Lillard and start an official rebuild.

Nevertheless, it's safe to assume that rumors will begin to surround Lillard in the summer. He has been at the top of his game this season, averaging 32.2 points, 4.7 rebounds and 7.2 assists.
