One-time NBA All-Star Kenyon Martin argued with his "Gil's Arena" co-host, Brandon Jennings, regarding the NFL and its recent performers. The football league announced on Sunday that it chose rapper Kendrick Lamar to perform in the Super Bowl LIX halftime show, which will be in New Orleans.
While he respects Lamar, Martin believes the rapper shouldn't have been chosen as the performer. Together with the league, Roc Nation and Apple Music confirmed the news regarding the much-awaited announcement. The former Denver Nuggets forward told the show's crew that he thinks the organizers made a blunder with their choice.
According to the Michigan native, a better choice would have been veteran rapper Lil Wayne, since he's also from New Orleans. But Jennings disagreed with what Martin said.
"Roc Nation and the NFL, by not having Wayne, they dropped the ball," Martin said. "His biggest song? This year? Is that what you asked before, 'What's his biggest song this year?' 'Cause that's all Kendrick has on him. Overall catalog? Kendrick can't f**k with Wayne."

The discussion about the Super Bowl's halftime performer started at the 2:35:15 mark.
Jennings argued that Lamar is a better overall performer and has more hits than the five-time GRAMMY winner. But Martin insisted that 2024 is the only year that the California rapper overtook Wayne in terms of having hit songs.
This year, Lamar got into a beef with Canadian rapper Drake. Initially, he responded to J. Cole's claim of having a Big 3 in the rap game in the song "First Person Shooter," with himself, Drizzy and K-Dot. In Future's song with Metro Boomin called "Like That," the rapper behind "DNA" dismissed anything that hints at having a Big 3 and claimed that he's the best rapper.
This led to a back-and-forth between Drake and himself, leading to a diss track battle. Thus, the hit diss track titled "Not Like Us" was birthed by Lamar and became the nail in the coffin of the feud.
Will Damian Lillard perform with Kendrick Lamar at the NFL Super Bowl?
Fans were surprised to find out that Kendrick Lamar will be performing at the NFL's Super Bowl. However, a post from NBA Centel claimed that Milwaukee Bucks star Damian Lillard will be on stage with the rapper.
The claim has no reliable source, and the post was allegedly trolling. The X (formerly Twitter) account takes trolling seriously, which often causes fans to believe wrong information.
Lillard has a rap persona, Dame D.O.L.L.A., but there haven't been any reports about him being part of Lamar's NFL finale performance.
