Kendrick Perkins blames Steve Kerr for Golden State Warriors’ current position: “This is gonna be Steve Kerr’s biggest challenge”

EPSN analyst Kendrick Perkins blames Steve Kerr for the Golden State Warriors' struggles this season. The Warriors lost their second game in a row after a blowout 143-113 loss to the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday. Brooklyn didn’t even play Kyrie Irving and still led 91-51 at halftime.

“This is gonna be Steve Kerr’s biggest challenge,” Perkins said.

Kerr is in his ninth season coaching the Warriors (15-18). His first five seasons were full of success, and he had his best talent in the prime of their careers. Now he has to show what he is made of as a coach. Prior to Steph Curry's injury, the team struggled to hang around .500 even while he was having one of his best seasons.

There wasn’t much expected of the Warriors in the 2019-20 season when the team was decimated by injuries and Kevin Durant left for Brooklyn. The current roster is coming off a championship with most of its best players from that roster. Fans and media tend to look at the coach when a team gets blown out in back-to-back games.

Kerr was not helped by the players he needs to lean on during times like this. Jordan Poole only provided 13 points and was a horrible 1-for-11 from 3-point range. Draymond Green provided only two points, four rebounds and six assists while only attempting two shots in 23 minutes.

To be fair to Steve Kerr, Klay Thompson did not play against the Nets and Andrew Wiggins is still out due to injury. The team will need its full compliment of players while the Warriors wait for Curry to come back. The Warriors have a homestand coming up, and they are 12-3 at home this season. If the team can play better and improve its record while there may be a chance to save the season.

Who can step up for the Warriors

The Warriors will need someone to step in and take their game to the next level while Curry is out and adjusts once he gets back.

One person who could really help the team is Draymond Green. This is a year when he will have to show his value to this franchise which will be trying to figure out its salary cap issues. If he can perform consistently like he did against the Raptors, when he scored 17 points and had nine rebounds and five assists in a 126-110 win on Dec. 18, the team could have a chance.
