Kyrie Irving recently donated $45,000 to a fundraiser that would help build a school in the slums of Lagos, Nigeria, and an orphanage in Ghana. The fundraiser was instigated by a tennis player named Cameron Mofid. Apparently, Mofid returned from a backpacking trip in West Africa a couple of weeks ago, which might explain his sudden urge to raise funds for children in Ghana and Nigeria.

Cameron Mofid set up a GoFundMe account in hopes of people donating to his cause. After a week passed, his fundraising goal of $5,000 was met. But then came last Sunday, to Mofid's surprise, Dallas Mavericks superstar Kyrie Irving donated $45,000 to his GoFundMe account. The tennis player couldn't believe it at first. But then Cameron found out on Google that Irving's donation was legit.

Kyrie's generous donation helped boost the funds to a total of $65,000. Cameron Mofid gave word to his associates in Ghana and Nigeria about the NBA star's actions and will now name the school, orphanage, and basketball court after Irving.

“It’s really amazing,” Mofid said. “I haven’t slept much because we’ve been figuring out all of our new plans. Initially we had just raised enough money to buy backpacks and to buy the land for the new orphanage. His donation single-handedly will build the entire orphanage in Ghana. It will buy a water tank for the kids in Nigeria."

Mofid continued:

"They live in a village with little access to clean drinking water. And so we’ll be able to buy a water tank; we’ll be able to buy shoes for all the kids. And books. And we will build a new basketball court in Irving’s honor.”

Despite his struggles and issues in the NBA, Kyrie Irving is genuinely a generous person in real life. No matter what people say about him, nobody can deny the times that Irving has given back to society. Just recently, he can now add his support for the children of Ghana and Nigeria to his list of donations throughout his career.

Other notable instances were when George Floyd died back in 2020. Kyrie Irving donated a house to Floyd's family to help them recover from their tragic loss. He also paid off college tuition for nine students at HBCU Lincoln University and many more.
