LA Lakers fans seemingly have a beef with UConn's men’s basketball coach Dan Hurley for refusing to coach the NBA team during the offseason. Lakers GM Rob Pelinka reportedly offered Hurley a six-year, $70 million contract to guide the Purple and Gold franchise.
Hurley turned down the opportunity to get the chance to lead the Huskies to a third-straight NCAA Division 1 championship.
However, the Huskies’ season is off to a rough start. They went to the Maui Invitational Tournament and finished last in an eight-team field. Hurley's team lost to Memphis, Colorado and Daytona.

The Lakers didn't have much to do with it, but the fans used Hurley's teams poor outing in the tournament to slam the UConn coach.
“Saw the camera then started crying.”
One fan commented:
“F**k Dan Hurley…….Happy Thanksgiving.”
@i2gotgame added:
“This is such a W for the lakers, JJ is already the perfect fit for the Lakers.”
@yaboichap91 quipped:
“Chance at a three-peat.”
Hurley reportedly earns $5.35 million a season for the UConn Huskies. Had he accepted the LA Lakers’ offer, he would have been one of the highest-paid coaches in the NBA. Former NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski reported in June that Hurley was “swept away” by the “courtship” and “vision” the Lakers had for the coach. Still, it wasn’t enough to lure him away from making history in Storrs.
JJ Redick, the second choice after Dan Hurley, is thriving as LA Lakers' coach
The LA Lakers quickly moved on from Dan Hurley once the UConn coach decided to remain with the Huskies. They promptly went to ESPN analyst JJ Redick who agreed to guide the team. Redick had no coaching experience before joining the Lakers but has since thrived in the role so far.
The Lakers started 3-0 and are 11-7 after winning 119-101 against the San Antonio Spurs on Thanksgiving Day. Redick seemingly has a command over the locker room and is respected by his players. So far, the former NBA player is having a better season than Hurley.
