The LA Lakers missed out on another potential free-agent signing after the Phoenix Suns acquired the services of Tyus Jones.
Last year, many predicted that not having a natural point guard would be the biggest hole on the Suns' roster. Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves ultimately swept them in the first round of the 2024 NBA playoffs.
The Suns hit the market and landed Jones, who was one of the most reliable players for the Washington Wizards last season. Senior NBA reporter Adrian Wojnarowski shares that Jones is joining the Suns on a one-year, $3.3 million deal.

This pickup sparked a lot of reactions from fans, with some praising the Suns for landing a notable point guard. Others criticized the Memphis Grizzlies for letting him go last year and yet others mocked the type of defense the Suns will have if Jones starts.
LA Lakers fans had some things to get off their chest regarding this move too. A lot of them lamented that Jones went to Phoenix, as they had dreamt of having him on their team's roster.
"Someone please explain why these types of deals are never done by the Lakers. My god," one fan said.
"Nobody want to come to the Lakers," another fan said.
One fan even said that the Lakers were waiting to get Cooper Flagg in next year's draft.
"Lakers looking to tank for a shot at Cooper Flagg," one fan wrote.
Lakers GM Rob Pelinka got a lot of fire after this move was reported.
"Do something Rob ffs," one fan exhorted.
LA Lakers insider explains why the team has had a quiet offseason
Contrary to past offseasons, the LA Lakers are yet to make a splash this year. The Purple-and-Gold have been linked with a lot of players in recent months, including Trae Young, Zach LaVine and Jerami Grant. Trade rumors regarding D'Angelo Russell have seen the light too, but nothing has been completed so far.
Speaking on the lack of moves, insider Andy Kamenetzky explains that the Lakers are yet to find a team willing to make a trade.
"If you look around the league, ... it's been a pretty quiet offseason, period. I don't think there's been a ton of action," Kamenetzky said.
"It's not like it's felt like half or three-quarters of the league has been really reshuffling their decks in meaningful ways and the Lakers are the anomaly. ... Compared to other offseasons, it's been relatively quiet."
They added a notable rookie in Dalton Knecht to have more scoring options, but the LA Lakers need more to compete for the championship.
