Luka Doncic garnered flak for his lack of effort on defense as the Dallas Mavericks lost 115-113 to the Utah Jazz at the Delta Center on Thursday. The guard was caught standing when Jordan Clarkson fired an assist to John Collins which Doncic didn't react to. This resulted in an easy bucket to break the 113-113 tie as the Jazz went up by two points with 6.4 seconds remaining on the clock. Fans were livid with the mercurial guard for the lapse as the Mavericks now have three consecutive losses.

Here's a quick look at the clutch sequence with one of the fans mincing no words:

"Luka might be the laziest defender in the NBA"

More reactions poured in. @RogCC wrote:

"Bro fell asleep on the job"

Another fan believed that Doncic was not just not great at defense. @Engagemyfarm added:

"He's not lazy, that's his maximum capability on defense. He just sucks."

@GolongV was all laughs.

"People say he was better then LeBron"

@Fran_uribe796 tweeted:

"He’s just a one dimensional player and he’s also overrated"

@treymcarter also focused on his offensive lapse.

"And he blames everybody but him. He takes the wrong time to shoot as well"

On the game front, Doncic had 37 points with 13-25 shooting from the field and 4-13 from beyond the arc. He also recorded seven rebounds and nine assists as the Mavericks fell short. Klay Thompson had 17 points, while Naji Marshall provided the spark off the bench with 19 points. John Collins and Jordan Clarkson had 28 and 20 points respectively as the Jazz secured their first home dub.

"It was a misunderstanding": Luka Doncic takes the blame for missing out on defense

Speaking to the media in the aftermath of the loss, Luka Doncic took the blame for his lapse that saw the Clarkson-Collins connection work to lead the Jazz to a win.

"It was a misunderstanding. I thought I was going to go hit, and Grimes thought he was going to go hit. And it was a lob, so we misunderstood the bench. That's on me."

Luka Doncic and Dallas will be keen to make amends as the third straight loss sees them slip to 5-7 and 12th place in the standings. The Mavericks are 1-4 on the road this season with all three of their defeats coming in away games. Up next, they host the San Antonio Spurs on Nov. 16.
