LeBron James and the LA Lakers visited the Memphis Grizzlies at the FedEx Forum on Wednesday night. It was the final game of the Lakers' current five-game road trip wherein they are just 1-3. They tried to gain some momentum before going back home for a three-game slate, but lost 131-114.

James did his best for a Lakers team missing Anthony Davis because of injury. "The King" finished with a game-high 39 points plus seven rebounds and six assists. It was not enough as the Grizzlies used a huge second half to hand the Lakers their fifth loss of the season.

Austin Reaves had 19 points, three rebounds, five assists and three steals, while Cam Reddish scored 15 points off the bench. Ja Morant, Jaren Jackson Jr. and Jaylen Wells finished with 20 points each to lead the Grizzlies. Four more players scored in double-digits, including three players off the bench.

How did LeBron James fare against the Memphis Grizzlies?

LeBron James is averaging just 21.9 points per game this season, the lowest of his career since his rookie year. James scored six points in the first quarter, but the Lakers were down 35-27 after 12 minutes of action. Without Anthony Davis, he had to shoulder the scoring load.

In the second quarter, the oldest player in the league picked up where he left with 16 points. He has not been aggressive like in previous seasons, deferring to AD, who looked like an early MVP candidate. However, Davis was out tonight so James had to do more than he had to with the Grizzlies up 59-53 after the first half.

The four-time NBA MVP turned the clock back again in the third quarter, but the Grizzlies were just too much. They could not get any stops as Memphis built a huge lead. D'Angelo Russell, Dalton Knecht and Gabe Vincent struggled shooting the ball, with Cam Reddish the only one stepping up off the bench.

What's next for LeBron James and the Lakers?

The LA Lakers will return home to Hollywood after a disappointing 1-4 road trip. They are undefeated at the Crypto.com Arena, so they could regain some momentum lost on the road. The Lakers are scheduled to welcome the Philadephia 76ers, Toronto Raptors and Memphis Grizzlies.

Philly is not expected to have Joel Embiid, while the Lakers already beat the Raptors earlier this season. The Grizzlies will pose the same problems although Anthony Davis' status could be up in the air depending on his recovery from a right heel contusion.

If AD won't be available, LeBron James has no other choice but to carry the Lakers again. However, his age will likely make it hard for him to take over in consecutive games. The Lakers need other players to step up their game.
