Former Golden State Warriors guard Gilbert Arenas made an appearance on live streamer Neon's Twitch channel on Monday. The former All-Star was shocked during the stream to learn that the average viewership had surpassed 30,000 people.
A fan shared a clip of the stream on X (formerly Twitter), capturing the exact moment Arenas noticed how many people were tuned in to watch, leaving him utterly surprised.
"How many people are in here right now? Does this say twenty-two thousand?" Arenas remarked. (Timestamp: 6:28 onwards)

Continuing to express his shock at the viewership numbers, Arenas joked that Neon had drawn more attention than some NBA teams, adding that the number of viewers was enough to fill “about four WNBA arenas.”

"He gets more views than the Charlotte Hornets, the Blazers, when Ja is out, he gets more than Ja, that's crazy. Like, you got more people watching than the Hornets get people," Arenas expressed (Timestamp: 6:48 onwards). "This is like four WNBA Arenas."
Arenas, who has found huge success with his podcast post-retirement, has a Twitch channel of his own but was left shocked by the viewership numbers on Neon's livestream. During the stream, he pointed out the gap between their channels while cracking jokes about his own viewer count.
"I did (do) a Twitch (stream). But yeah, I just got like three people," Gill joked. (Timestamp: 0:47 onwards) " They (the chat) moving fast, I've never seen this. I can read all of mine little by little."
The duo spent over an hour on the stream, discussing various subjects on and off the field before taking part in a friendly scrimmage.
Gilbert Arenas on streamers changing the advertising industry: "Changed the game."
Gilbert Arenas' appearance on Neon's livestream on Monday offered fans a closer look at the former NBA star. The duo shared an exciting chemistry on stream, diving deep into their personal experiences about their respective worlds, Arenas in basketball and Neon in streaming.
While Arenas shared insightful stories from his time in the NBA, he also fondly discussed the streaming industry and how it has changed various industries, including advertising.
"Y'all done changed the game, right? The game has been changed from advertising, how advertising happens, from just streaming itself, right? Like podcasts, those are damn near obsolete. When you're talking about big platforms like Amazon, Netflix, stuff like that, they want streamers," he expressed (Timestamp: 8"09 onwards). "Y'all done moved the needle."
Arenas’s remarks showed the genuine respect he has for the new generation of creators, as his chat with Neon bridged the gap between two eras.
