According to Spotrac, Doncic will be on the fourth year of his five-year, $215.2 million contract in 2025-26. The 26-year-old will earn $46 million and has a $49 million player option in 2026-27.

Looking at Luka Doncic's future with the Lakers and possible contract structures

Although Luka Doncic is not an upcoming free agent, his contract has been discussed a lot. According to ESPN's Bobby Marks, he will be eligible to sign a contract extension with the LA Lakers on Aug. 2.

The maximum that Doncic could sign is a four-year, $229 million. However, the superstar could also sign a shorter three-year, $165 million extension with a player option on the third year. According to Marks, this structure could allow Doncic to "recoup the $345 million he lost when he was traded."

In 2028-29, Doncic will reach 10 years of service and be eligible for the 35% supermax that could be worth around $418 million for five years in 2028.

According to The Athletic's Jovan Buha and Sam Amick, Doncic could also choose to play out his current deal or opt out after 2025-26 and decline his player option. In this scenario, he could sign a five-year, $296 million contract with LA or a four-year, $219 million deal with another team.

Fans should not be concerned as the Lakers reportedly expressed their desire to accommodate Luka Doncic's desires and said they would be amenable to any contract structure.
