NBA fans were left in shock when Magic Johnson fired back at Anthony Edwards for his comments claiming that Michael Jordan was the only player with real skill back in the day. Johnson responded by saying he didn't want to engage with someone who hasn't won a championship.
The Minnesota Timberwolves star discussed the quality of players in the 1990s during an interview with The Wall Street Journal, which was released on Aug. 19. In the interview, Edwards expressed skepticism about the skill level back then.
"I didn't watch it back in the day, so I can't speak on it," Edwards said. "They say it was tougher back then than it is now, but I don't think anybody had skill back then. MJ was the only one that really had skill, you know what I mean? So that's why when they saw Kobe [Bryant], they were like, 'Oh, my God.' But now everybody has skill."

In a striking rebuttal, Johnson said:

“I never respond to a guy who's never won a championship... He didn't win a college championship, I don't even know if he won a high school championship.”
Fans were taken aback by Johnson’s sharp response, with one even comparing it to Kendrick Lamar’s diss track “Not Like Us,” often considered a final blow in his feud with Drake.
“Jesus Christ. Magic Johnson just dropped ‘Not Like Us 2’ with this frying,” tweeted @TheWPBandit.
User @FukbeinSocial chimed in:
"Ant finna drop a diss track."
User @NukeVuitton noted that it was rare for Magic Johnson to criticize a current player, suggesting that Edwards' comments might have hit a sensitive spot.
“This the first time Magic ever spoke down on a current player. Ant definitely struck a nerve,” he commented.
"I mean... He's not lying. Ant is still that guy though," one fan stood up for Edwards.
"'I never respond' Responds," said one fan pointing out the irony of Magic's comments.
Meanwhile, one fan took a shot at Magic about his rings comment:
"You'd be ringless if u played in this era," the fan said.

Johnson, who played 13 seasons in the NBA, led the Lakers to five NBA championships in nine Finals appearances.
Meanwhile, Edwards, in his four-year career, has only reached the Western Conference Finals, which happened last season after his team eliminated the defending champion Denver Nuggets but lost to the Dallas Mavericks.
Magic Johnson once compared Anthony Edwards to Michael Jordan
Back in March, Magic Johnson praised Anthony Edwards’ athleticism after a posterizing dunk on John Collins.
Reacting to the play on X (formerly Twitter), Johnson called Edwards the best in-game dunker in the league, saying:
“Anthony Edwards is the greatest in-game dunker in the NBA today and one of the most exciting and electrifying players because of his athleticism! His dunk reminds me of the best in-game dunkers I played against - Dr. J, Michael Jordann and Dominique Wilkins!”
Johnson also voiced his support for Edwards on X as he led his team to the Western Conference finals.
