The LA Lakers snapped their losing streak in season openers with a 110-103 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on opening night at Crypto.com Arena on Tuesday. The Purple and Gold made a solid start under new coach JJ Redick as they rolled out a win at home on the back of some impressive basketball.
It was the Anthony Davis show as the big propped up massive numbers in his first game of the season. The center recorded a double-double with 36 points and 16 rebounds and had the fans cheering MVP. He also snagged three key blocks.
The Lakers looked like an entirely new unit as Rui Hachimura got the ball rolling on offense. He drilled their first 3-pointer of the night and followed it up with a deuce.
Crashing the boards and playing pesky defense were part of the Lakers' repertoire in the first quarter. After maintaining a lead for most of the contest, they trailed 23-22 to end the first quarter.

However, their offense kicked into gear in the second as they carved out a 34-27 lead with a flurry of buckets from D'Angelo Russell, Jaxson Hayes and LeBron James. That run extended to 15 points as they dominated the glass in the second quarter. They entered halftime with a 13-point lead (55-42).
The Lakers also survived a scary moment when James and Jaden McDaniels collided, with the four-time NBA champion heading to the bench clutching his elbow. However, he returned to the game alongside his son, Bronny, with four minutes left in the quarter to create history as the first father-son duo to take the floor in the NBA.
The second half saw LA pick up where it left off as it continued to exploit the cracks in Minnesota's defense. Despite the massive difference between the two sides' 3-point shooting (T-Wolves made 34.6% of their shots compared to the Lakers' 14.3% in the third stretch), the Lakers hung on to their lead. They led 82-74 heading into the final quarter.
Minnesota cut the deficit to four points in the first few minutes of the final frame. But James and Davis took over down the stretch to close out the win.
Hachimura had a field day with 18 points, five rebounds and one assist. Anthony Davis recorded a double-double to start his season with 36 points and 16 rebounds. Austin Reaves chipped in with 12 points, nine rebounds and four assists while James finished with 16 points and four assists.
Anthony Edwards led the Timberwolves with 27 points. Rudy Gobert chipped in with 13 points and 14 rebounds and Naz Reid played a solid hand with 12 points. New acquisitions Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo posted 16 and 10 points, respectively.
