Monty Williams reminds Kevin Durant who he is after a rough first half in home debut for the Suns

Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant didn't necessarily have the best start to his home debut at Footprint Center. However, head coach Monty Williams came through with some words of wisdom for his superstar.

Durant made his long-awaited return from injury on Wednesday against the Minnesota Timberwolves. He was acquired by the Suns via a shocking trade ahead of the deadline but has only played three games with the team thus far.

After a freak accident before the game against the OKC Thunder, Durant found himself sidelined for the better part of March. Additionally, KD also had to wait a significant amount of time before making his debut in Phoenix.

With Durant back on the floor, Phoenix look like the title-contenders they aspired to be. Unfortunately, after a rather disappointing half of action, Durant looked fairly demoralized. At this juncture, Suns head coach Monty Williams had some solid advice for KD.

While Durant was shaking off a botched play, Williams told him:

"What you shaking your head for? It’s part of it. Greatness doesn’t shake his head. You feel me?"

Williams' advice certainly managed to light something inside Durant for the second-half. After notching only three points in the first, KD is up to 16 points on 5-18 shooting nearing the midway point in the fourth.

With the Suns barely holding the Timberwolves off at this juncture, Phoenix will need its stars to get going as soon as possible.

Kevin Durant makes the Phoenix Suns a title contender

Kevin Durant being on the floor is an extremely positive sign for the Phoenix Suns' title aspirations moving forward. Although Durant has looked a little rusty and sluggish in his home debut, the Suns would be wise to give him some burn before the playoffs.

The notion of having Durant on the floor is enough to make him a threat against any opposing team. Given the sheer variety in his offensive repertoire, it is impossible to ignore KD. This opens up several avenues for Devin Booker to score and create.

At the moment, Phoenix features a 40-35 record. With roughly six games to play this season, the Suns have enough time to get Durant back into game condition for the playoffs.

Although the Suns may encounter some issues with roster depth and defensive wings, Phoenix will undoubtedly be a force to be reckoned with.
