“Celtics get Anthony Davis, Lakers get Robert Williams” – NBA analyst asserts Lakers to immediately trade Anthony Davis to reap maximum benefits

New Orleans Pelicans vs. LA Lakers

Anthony Davis has played some of the best basketball of his career over the past four games. Even though the Lakers' three-game win streak was snapped by the Phoenix Suns 115-105 on Tuesday night, the loss did not prevent Davis from having another monster game. The All-Star power forward had 37 points, 21 rebounds, five steals and five blocks.

With the team sitting at 5-11 this season, there has been constant conversation in the media on how to improve this team.

Should they get rid of their future draft picks and go all in to make another championship run or should they tear it all down and start over? This will be hard because LeBron James’ contract won’t allow him to be traded this season. So, the only other top option would be to trade Davis and see what assets could be collected for him.

FS1’s Colin Cowherd suggested the Lakers should trade Davis. Cowherd believes that the team could sell high on Davis. He believes that Davis peaked at 24 and the Lakers are not in a position to win a championship.

"This is precisely the time that you trade him," Cowherd said. "Celtics get Anthony Davis, Lakers get Robert Williams."

The flaw in Cowherd’s thinking is that this is too early in the season to make any rash moves. Davis is now playing like the player that the organization thought they acquired and who could one day take the reins from LeBron James. The Lakers haven’t even seen this version of Davis and LeBron on the court together.

Cowherd then threw out a trade scenario where the Lakers would get Robert Williams from the Boston Celtics in exchange for Davis. This would be the worst trade in NBA history, and the Lakers wouldn’t consider it. Boston would have to trade Williams, a few draft picks and maybe someone like Jaylen Brown. The trade deadline isn’t until Feb. 9, so the Lakers might want to take their time on this idea.

Anthony Davis on historic run

Anthony Davis is one of the greatest four-game runs in NBA history. He is the first player in 47 years to record 30-plus points, 15-plus rebounds, while being 60% from the field. The only other players to reach this feat were Wilt Chamberlain and Bob McAdoo. With LeBron being out on injury, Davis has asserted himself as the No. 1 option.

Once James is healthy, the Lakers will really get to see what they have. Maybe these recent performances by Davis will allow the Lakers' coaching staff to lean on him more even with James back in the lineup.

The Lakers will be in action again on Friday and Saturday as the go on the road to take on the San Antonio Spurs on back-to-back nights.
